Yes! I know it's July. laughs
But I had a fantastic idea:
A haunted bike ride!
Wait...wait...wait...

Hear me out.
Behind us, there is the one kilometer loop and a small cul de sac that leads to a pathway through overgrown grasses and bushes. It goes around a small pond (named, of all things, Pumpkinseed Pond) , then meanders its way to Gainsborough Road.
I was thinking - and Mike, Jude and a customer/fellow polo player named Jeff all agree - that we should do a haunted bike ride!
We can take the path, have a start point and end point, with "scary" spots (like a zombie cyclist climbing out of the grasses, a witch, etc..). Obviously, it would have to be planned out, many batteries purchased for lighting and stuff. Then there's who is going to be what, where, and do what to the unsuspecting vict...I mean young riders.

What treats - do we want a mix of store bought plus things like cupcakes or cookies? Juices? (No pop; no parent wants their kid to have caffeine right before bed)

There are all sorts of questions, like:
Do we want moveable parts? Like a skeleton rider or jogger.
Do we need to get the city to cooperate?
Do we need to block off the road there?
How long do we want it to go? There are options. From the cul-de-sac to Gainsborough is approximately one kilometer.
As you can see, there are a couple of ways to go. We can go all the way down the path from
Woodstock St to Gainsborough or we can cut it half and either go from the bottom of Pumpkinseed Pond to Gainsborough, or go from Woodcock to the first left turn before coming out on North Rutledge.
They both present the same problem: traffic. However, I think that working from Woodcock St to North Rutledge will be the safest. Maybe we can get it blocked off? I'll have to look into it.
The thing about asking the city questions is that the city gets curious. When it gets curious, it starts poking into things. When it starts poking into things, things get expensive. (Do you hear "When You Give a Mouse a Cookie" in there?)
I sincerely expect we'll need a permit, especially since there will be a number of cars parking there on N. Rutledge. I'll find out, although, if one of you already knows, feel free to fill me in. I'll ask the Hyde Park BIA, too.
Without question, we want it safe and fun.
The other question is, well, two-part question, is:
Do we want to do it on Halloween night (Thursday)? Or on the prior Saturday? AND do we want to do it more than one night?
Or maybe one night this time and see how it goes?
Apparently, that was a 4-part question.
What do you think? Would you bring your kids? Would you want to help out? (Helping is anything from donating décor or candy [which I'm not asking for], to dressing up and being an exhibit)
Let me know what you think!
If constellations had been named in the 20th century, I suppose we would see bicycles. ~Professor Carl Sagan, US scientist
Oh! PS. I have another blog coming out shortly about ghost bikes. I'll be finishing it tomorrow most likely, given that it's 3 o'clock.
